From a Shape to Shapes, from a Black to Colours, 5+2 is exploring the space between the spiritual self and “The Other”. Her goal is not to find the right answers but to look for questions that make you continue life one more day at a time. The dots are there for the art viewer to connect. In her art, questions become patterns she paints on canvas, walls, spaces, human bodies, from objects to music and others, you name it! You never get bored with her art journey, and she might occasionally make you experience your “The Other”. Ng Ka Yu joins a tradition of modern expressionistic art based on eastern spiritualism and western phenomenology with her artworks. She is not afraid of exploring her inner spiritual feelings by meditating to the extreme. Still, the artist is comfortable discussing the knowledge “out there” about matters that matter, from how we live to deep dark matter cosmology. She goes from the big picture to the miniature objects that make us humans. She writes: “Create, create, that is my only way of knowing. Create is the tool, and deep connection is the key.” The artist is constantly recreating herself. There is no final truth. But you are alive today, and the truth is with you. Tomorrow is another story to tell, another canvas to paint. Another truth. Ng Ka Yu is fond of being with animals and loves to walk her dog daily. Her purpose in life is to be happy. Enjoy the beauty in her art, walk with her artworks, and find happiness, perhaps, somewhere between yourself and “The Other”.
